If you’re used to having lettuce on your sandwiches or enjoy salads, you need to know that you may soon get an upcharge – that is, if you get it at all! That’s because there’s a lettuce shortage that is affecting many of the most popular fast-food chains.
Among them? Taco Bell, Subway, Chick-fil-A and Panera – they’ve all been forced to warn customers that some ingredients may not be available. Not only that, prices for items like salads have increased considerably.
Like many other food items, romaine and iceberg lettuce prices have gone crazy since 2019 – as much as a 400% increase! For perspective, a box of iceberg lettuce cost $14 a few years ago and last month? That same box costs $67!
