A GOOGLE DOODLE contest from earlier this Spring asked students in grades K-12, "What Kindness Means to Me" and Hawaii student in the K through 3 category placed in the National finalist category.
MacKenna Hughes' work shows a smiling person on the beach surrounding by sand and other objects with the waves forming the word, "Google", in the background. Her caption:
"I show kindness by picking up trash & microplastics on the beach
In my artwork, I repurposed trash that I collected from my favorite beach. Animals eat these microplastics and they can kill them or make them very sick."
MacKenna is one of four national finalists - representing the judges' selection for each Grade grouping - and will be awarded a $5000 Scholarship, Google hardware and "fun Googley swag"!
The overall national winner is Sharon Sara of Texas and their Google Doodle is featured in today's (September 23, 2020) page.
