#KokuaforTonga
This is one of the worst volcanic eruptions the Pacific has experienced in decades.
The volcanic eruption and tsunami that hit Tonga have caused widespread damage throughout the country and caused ripples around the world. Although communication within the country is limited, reports and aerial surveillance are starting to show the extent of the damage.
We know homes have been destroyed and water sources damaged. Tongans will need support to rebuild their communities, to stay safe from water-borne diseases like dengue, and the health risks posed by the plumes of volcanic ash that still hang in the air.
It is estimated that up to 80,000 people have been affected by the latest catastrophe. The full extent of damage and need has yet to be determined.
Every dollar counts:
- $8 can provide two 10-litre jerry cans to help a family store and transport safe drinking water.
- $85 can provide a shelter kit with tarpaulins, ropes and tools to help people put a temporary roof over their head after a disaster.
- $255 can provide an essential relief pack, with mosquito nets, jerry cans, buckets, hygiene kit, kitchen set, blankets, shelter tool kit and tarpaulins to give a family a new start after a disaster.
We are raising funds for the Hawai’i Red Cross who will get 100% of the funds to the Tongan Red Cross Society.
