Bitcoin mania has now hit the NFL. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Sean Culkin is going to take his entire 2021 salary in bitcoin. The Chiefs will pay Culkin's $920,000 base salary in dollars that will be converted to bitcoin each week through the Strike by Zap app. The app lets users make bitcoin payments with a debit card or bank account. Culkin gave his reason for converting his NFL salary to bitcoin: "Considering my career, particularly its physical demands and brevity, it makes the most sense to be paid in sound money that I believe protects its purchasing power over time." Culkin, who's believed to be the first NFL player to receive a salary in bitcoin, also said he believes more people are starting to see bitcoin as a "legitimate asset class."
