Hurricane Douglas is now classified as a major hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Douglas is roughly 1,300 ESE of Hilo, moving rapidly to the WNW at 20mph. Douglas is expected to start weakening on Friday as it approaches Hawaii, but could still be at hurricane strength when the Big Island begins to feel its effects. Douglas is expected to be at tropical storm strength as it moves by Maui County, Oahu, and Kauai through Monday.
