Hurricane Douglas Now Has 100MPH Winds

Hurricane Douglas is now a category 2 storm.

As of 5PM Wednesday afternoon, Douglas has maximum sustained winds of 100mph and is moving to the WNW at 17mph. Douglas is just over 1,500 miles ESE of Hilo, Hawaii. Hurricane force winds now extend 15 miles from the eye of Douglas and tropical storm force winds extend over 100 miles from the center of the storm.

Douglas is still forecast to weaken into a strong tropical storm as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands on Sunday. On its current forecast track, Douglas would likely bring heavy rains and winds to the Big Island Sunday afternoon and evening. Maui County (Maui, Molokai, & Lanai), Oahu, and Kauai may also be impacted by Douglas from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon.
