Erick Almost Gone, Flossie Weakens As It Approaches Hawaii

Our last report on Erick, which has passed Hawaii and is barely a tropical storm. Flossie may come closer to Hawaii than earlier forecasts indicated.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Erick is expected to weaken to a tropical depression later today or tonight, then become a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Flossie is expected to become a tropical depression Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. Swells generated by Flossie will affect portions of the main Hawaiian Islands over the next couple of days, potentially producing dangerous surf conditions, mainly along east and southeast facing shores.
