Airlines Offering Travel Waivers; Restricting Animal Travel During Storm

Airports still remain open even as Hurricane Lane turns into a Tropical Storm creating over 30 inches of rain for the big island. As of now, many airlines have announced waivers to travelers who are coming to and from the island due to heavy delays & pending cancellations.

Officials are reminding travelers to check with their airlines about the status of their flights before heading to the airport. This is key due to the fact that many flights could be delayed or even cancelled due to pending weather and it's trajectory. As of now, there are no reports of extensive damage at any airports.

According to a Washington Post article,

Officials at American Airlines warned the state has placed restrictions on all animals traveling to Hawaii, including service animals. State officials anticipate they will have limited staffing because of the storm, making it difficult to care for the animals in quarantine and process new arrivals. Officials said pets and emotional support animals will not be allowed on flights from midnight Friday through Monday at 8 a.m. local time. Those traveling with service animals are required to contact the quarantine office during check-in at the airport to ensure their animal has been pre-cleared for release upon arrival.

Before heading to airports, please contact your airline to get a full rundown of what's expected or if you need to find ways to stay in shelter.
