New Orleans Native Punkie Johnson Joins 'Saturday Night Live' Cast

"Crank Yankers" 2019 Premiere Party

A New Orleans native is one of the latest additions to the "Saturday Night Live" cast ahead of the show's 46th season premiere.

Comedian and writer Punkie Johnson is one of three new cast members scheduled to debut on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show's premiere on October 3, Variety reports.

Johnson is credited with recent appearances on the shows "Space Force," "Corporate," "A Black Lady Sketch Show," "Adam Ruins Everything," "Bill Burr Presents: The Ringers," and the 2019 reboot of "Crank Yankers," according to IMDB.com. She was also a New Face at the 2019 "Just for Laughs" festival and a paid regular at the Comedy Store in Hollywood, according to CNET.com.

Johnson also makes history as SNL's first out Black lesbian performer to join the cast in its 46-year history. She will be joined by fellow new cast members Lauren Holt and Andrew Dismukes, who has worked as a staff writer at SNL during the past three seasons.

Holt is a house performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in Los Angeles and a founding member of the theatre's musical improve troupe, "The Pickup," according to CNET.com. As an actor, Holt is credited as starring in the independent web series "The Filth" and the short-film "Parent Teacher Conference," which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the Atlanta County Film Festival, according to Vulture.

Dismukes, a stand-up comedian, joined the SNL writing staff in season 43. He was also selected as a New Face at the 2017 "Just for Laughs" festival and has performed as several other notable comedy festivals including the "New York Comedy Festival" and Comedy Central's "Colossal Clusterfest," according to Vulture.
