TV specials featuring live musicals have been going strong, sharing this medium with an audience who'd otherwise not be able to enjoy the theatre. When you've got a chance to go to Broadway or off-Broadway, do it! Such a thrill!
Over the weekend, NBC showcased "Jesus Christ Superstar" with John Legend. The costuming and performances were widely praised while Sara Bareilles' "I Don't Know How to Love Him" was one of the songs singled out (above).
The original stage play was shown in London in 1973 and ran for four years with Hawaii-born singer Yvonne Elliman. Her voice and the role thrust her into the international spotlight for many years.
