The banana plant is so much more than just a quick snack. The banana is an amazing fruit with endless varieties that can be used in various breakfast dishes, to cook with, or even
to create an ice cream like dessert for those with dairy sensitivities. It’s also attractive in any size outdoor space. When grouped together, the banana plant’s full leaves and colorful fruit make it a beautiful, lush focal area. When planted in a row, it creates specific areas in the yard, or serves as a screen or hedge in place of a fence.
Led by Gabriel Sachter-Smith, tropical plant and soil science master’s student at the
University of Hawaii, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, and guest banana expert, this workshop will focus on everything you need to know about bananas including:
- Itsmany varieties and selecting the right banana plant for you
- Benefits and uses of bananas
- Helpful dos and don’ts of caring for banana plants including fertilizing, harvesting,
propagating, and more
