UH Manoa Chancellor on the Way Out

Posted July 28th, 2014 @ 1:29pm

University of Hawaii at Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple may be on the way out. He has three years left in his five-year contract. Hawaii News Now reports that UH President David Lassner told Apple that the university did not plan on keeping him as head of UH's largest campus. His reported ouster is being negotiated.  Apple has reportedly hired Big Island employment lawyer Jerry Hiatt, who also represented former UH President Marcie Greenwood. He might stay at the university since his employment agreement allows him to "fall back" to a tenured bio-chemistry professor position at UH’s John A. Burns School of Medicine. In that position, Apple could be assured a salary as high as other senior faculty there.
