An online petition asking the University of Hawaii Board of Regents to reject a retired Army officer in the running to be the next UH president had generated more than 350 signatures by Monday night. Organizers behind the petition argue that retired Lieutenant General Frank Wiercinski is not qualified to lead the U-H system given his exclusively military background. Those who drafted the letter say they are concerned that Wiercinski has no experience in public education. The letter will be delivered at the board's monthly meeting Thursday.
