Big Island Raises the Age for Buying Tobacco Products

Posted July 1st, 2014 @ 2:16pm

Beginning Tuesday, retailers on the Big Island can no longer sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21 up from 18.  Hawaii County became only the fourth municipality in the country to impose the ban. So retailers should know that anyone born after June 30, 1996, is not legally allowed to purchase tobacco and even electronic cigarette products. There is a grandfather clause which allows an exemption for anyone who turned 18 before Tuesday.
